Improved on Perfection
Date: 2008-10-04 | Rating: 5
I owned one of the first HB Big Mouths ... it came time to get another ( I cracked the bowl ) This version is wonderful all the blades store inside , the chopping blade is lower and can chop smaller amounts . The power is amazing. The suction cups on the bottom hold it in place but don't require a weight lifting belt to get it free from the counter , like the first version did. I gave away my new KitchenAid in favor of this product , the KitchenAid was damaged in one light use. I have a large family 7 kids , 2 parents , 2 employees and this Big Mouth can handle what ever I through at it. I highly recommend this product.

Not so impressed...

We liked this much better then the garbage black n decker cheap one we bought 2 years ago, but the plastic hub that holds the top slicer stripped in 3 weeks of use on this. The motor is strong, but putting hard foods like carrots in puts wear and tear on that hub very quickly. One turned sideways and wedged itself in the cutting blade jamming the machine, and the plastic hub stripped. If it was metal there wouldn't be an issue, but stripping in 3 weeks is obviously a design flaw.

great little product

My wife and I can our own vegetables each year. Previously we have used a hand chopper to process the veggies for our relish. We bought this product last winter and have not used it until this summer. Wow! What a great little product. This has made our job much easier. 5 or 6 pulses and the load is done. With our arthritis problems, this is a life saver.

I ordered the deluxe food processor and got the 3-cup in error. I have not used this product and am still awaiting a response from Amazon about a credit back to my card. I think the 3-cup was $20.00, and I paid 30.00 for the deluxe.

Amazon.com Review
With a 350-watt motor and a 7-cup bowl, this inexpensive tool puts a family-size food-processor's versatility and ease into a cook's hands at a bargain price. The processor's S-shaped stainless-steel blade kneads bread dough and chops and minces a variety of foods, from nuts to meat to cheese to vegetables and fruits. The reversible stainless-steel disc blade slices and shreds fruits and vegetables, and, with two speeds to choose from and a pulse control, the processor offers classic flexibility for fine work. Beginners will appreciate the control panel's chart, which lists the appropriate blades and speeds for specific tasks. The processor measures 12-1/2 by 8-1/4 by 7 inches and sits on rubber feet to prevent skidding. The bowl, cover, and blades are dishwasher-safe. --Fred Brack

Love this food processor!
Date: 2000-10-30 | Rating: 5
I purchased this FP 4 1/2 years ago and it is still running strong. I have grated, diced, and mixed well over 1500 pounds of food and have yet to experience any problems.Christmas, 2 years ago, I was making a dough that was so thick, the motor was barely going, even on the high setting. I was horrified to see smoke pouring out of the back of the stand, so I shut it off and figured that I had killed it for certain. Not so! After cooling down for half hour or so, it was up and running again as though nothing had happened.I use this when I puree my pumpkin each fall. Over the course of 3 or 4 days, I generally do around 200-300 pounds of pumpkin and this FP has sailed through with out any problems. This includes running times into the hours. (4 or 5 hours at a time without any longer than a 30 second break between batches)I have dropped it... it fell into a sink of water...it was in a box that fell down a flight of stairs... I have basically done anything and everything one would think would cause it to be destroyed and yet it just won't quit!I would recommend this FP to anyone looking for a workhorse for a good price. I would be lost without mine and consider it the most important small appliance in my kitchen.

Wonderful!

The product does the job. It can chop, mince, puree, you name it. I found it very useful and I am extremely happy with the purchase. The product is powerful 350W, has large capacity. The product can even ground meat. I no longer buy ground meat in a package off a shelf from grocery stores. You can control fat and lean. You can buy a block of cheese and use this product to shred them. Carrot cake? This is what you need. The best of all, you can save money that way even more with this product. Pulse action allows you to make pie dough as well. I can not stress enough how easy the clean up is. All you need to do is to quickly rinse them and place them in your dishwasher. Anything else, you simply wipe them off with a damp cloth.

Nice food processor for your basic needs at a great price

I bought this about 3 months ago for my mom, and so far we haven't had any problems. Overall, I am satisfied with the product. We use it to puree, knead and grind things. The large capacity bowl is just the perfect size. I haven't used the slicing blade yet, but I guess the chill lid is useful to collect the sliced stuff outside. The mouth is a bit small unless you don't mind cutting up things to feed through the mouth. If it were up to me, I would change the design and make it less bulky and easier to store. I like the big mouth food processors that don't have the control on the side, taking up less space. But for $25, this is a pretty good one and functions quite well. If you buy it, make sure the bowl and the lid are well "locked" in place before you power on the unit, otherwise it won't run.

Works like a charm!

I have never owned a food processor before and this machine truly does what it says it's going to do. Chops, blends, and is easy to use. My boyfriend and I are now obsessed with making hummus from scratch and using it to make soup and purees. I highly recommend this easy to use, easy to clean affordable machine!

A Remarkable product
Date: 2007-01-04 | Rating: 5
This food processor is the easiest to use, clean up is a "snap" food does not get caught up in the shoot, everything from cheese to carrots grates up into the best texture for salads, oriental dishes, & the cheese grated in this item comes out firm, with each piece firm not "globed" into one chunk. I love my Hamilton Beach food processor & wouldn't trade it for any other product on the market to this date. I have always had problems with a food processor, getting it apart, cleaning it has always been a "call the husband for help" ordeal, NOT this Hamilton Beach, I take it apart with ease, put it together with ease. I could reccomend this item for people with hand problems I feel that strongly about loving this item.

Best Economy Processor ever
Date: 2000-11-20 | Rating: 5
This Hamilton Food processor is the best I've ever used. It's very clean, and quite and at the same time it works great and is very inexpensive!

No longer abale to get parts

I like my machine and it runs great. I noticed small hairline cracks all over the s-blade. I called hamilton beach and they don's sell replacement parts for this processor anymore. They wouln't even give me a discount on a new one. I am now throwing away a perfectly good chopper.

Worked well for me!

This has been a great food processor for me! I bought model #70600 in about 1995 and have been very happy with it. It's still kicking. (I really think model 70600 is the earlier version of this 70700. My 70600 looks exactly like this down to the buttons on the top and the blades.) I use it to slice, grate, and puree. I used it just last week to grate sweet potatoes. I've used it for pizza dough. I haven't had any problems leaving it running (although I haven't tried running it for extended periods with really thick items like bread dough). It may not be the best food processor out there but it gets the job done and is much cheaper than the others. It has helped me make easy work of all my veggie recipes that require a lot of chopping of a lot of vegetables. Plus, after 8 years I just called their customer service and they're sending me a replacement "disc shaft" for free as a courtesy. (I accidentally chewed mine up in the garbage disposal.)

What were they thinking????
Date: 2003-10-11 | Rating: 3
This is my second processor. I don't remember the first model but it was great. This one works great except for the top coming apart. Why would they screw two pieces together, what were they thinking? The first one had a one piece molded plastic top. Everytime I grate cheese a large chunk gets wedged between the disc and the top. It has ripped all of the screws out and separated the two pieces so I can no longer use it as a grater, which is why I'm on this site, trying to purchase either a new top or scews to repair the old one

poorly designed food processor
Date: 2001-01-03 | Rating: 1
Santa bought one of these for my wife. We quickly learned that the height of the space between the top of the cutting plate and the bottom of the top cover for the bowl is so large that anything you try to slice, grate, whatever, will still be a big chunk of food before the slicing or grating is complete. This item would work fine if you don't mind picking the large chunks of "sliced or grated" food out of the bowl every time you run a separate piece of food through the cutting area ... I'm returning it today.

A lotta power at a reasonable price.
Date: 2005-08-08 | Rating: 5
After cooking for my family for 25 years I broke down and decided to buy a food processor. After researching here, I decided this Hamilton Beach Big Mouth was the biggest workhorse for the littlest price. I was right. It is very easy to learn how to operate, it +chops, slices, and grates in seconds, and best of all is its "big mouth." Yep, just stick a whole onion, whole zucchini, or whatever in there and out it comes without dragging out your cutting board and knife to cut it half first. I also purchased separately the french fry cutter blade, which makes awesome fries at just the right size. A piece of advice: DO NOT go to Walmart, Target, etc. and get this processor without that bonus blade! You really need that as the other blade slices very very thin. Overall, I am VERY happy with this purchase. I keep it on my counter so I can use it without the pain of getting it out. It looks nice there.

Very Impressed
Date: 2005-06-01 | Rating: 5
This product is wonderful. I received it as a gift, and was disappointed at first that it wasn't a Cuisinart! However, after using it for the past two months, I don't think I could be more satisfied with anything else. Here are some reasons: *It has attachments for grating cheese, slicing food, and finely chopping food. *It has four different speeds plus a pulse speed, which allows you to chop just for a second if needed. *It has a "mouth" that is enlargeable and allows you to easily fit whole fruits or vegetables without removing the top. *Its 14 cup capacity is enough to make a huge amount of food. I recently made enough salsa to feed an army in just one batch. *It has a powerful motor; I've never had it stop or even sound like it's having trouble- I have put in four whole onions, and this processor finely chopped them in literally about 5 or 7 seconds. *It comes with a booklet that recommends the speed and amount of time different vegetables should be chopped, depending on what type of look you're going for (i.e. french fry slice, finely chopped, grated). *It has a safety feature that requires the top to be locked before the machine can run- safe both for the person putting things in, and for any little ones who may be playing with things on the counter. *It has suction cups on the bottom which keep the machine in one place while it's running. They are a bit confusing at first, as it is hard to figure out how to get them to stop sticking so you can move the processor, but I found that you can solve this problem by just sliding the machine around the counter. *This product is easy to store. While you are not using it, all of its attachments fit neatly inside it, so it doesn't use up any extra room, and so the attachments won't get lost. I just leave mine on my countertop. *It is easy to clean, and all parts are dishwasher safe. *Just a reminder- This product is a food processor, not a blender, so the closest to blending you will get is very finely chopped. If you are looking for something that will blend as well as process food, you may want to look for a product that is both a blender and a food processor in one. This is easily the most used product in my kitchen. It's just as good as a Cuisinart -- and half the price! I highly recommend it.

So easy to use...So little to pay!
Date: 2005-01-10 | Rating: 5
I bought this about a week ago and it is fantastic! I love how you don't have to do any chopping beforehand, you just put the whole fruit or vegetable in and away it goes! It is really easy to clean too, it is even dishwasher safe! This product has a great price tag too! I would recommend this product...it has been great so far!

Best home food processor I have owned
Date: 2006-04-13 | Rating: 5
I have purchased a series of 6 or 7 food processors over the past 15 years. Other than by hand blender, the Big Mouth is the most functional, flexible and powerful food processor I have ever owned. We added this machine to our bridal registry after seeing a commercial for the Big Mouth. The commercial was humorous, but they did not lie about the machine's capabilities. You really can fit in a huge variety of foods in to the feeding tube. Whole tomatoes, quartered heads of iceberg lettuce, cucumbers, blocks of chocolate fit right in and can be shredded in less time than it takes for you to read this review. For example, we like to make a brazilian type of salad with carrots, red cabbage, onion and garlic. Making it by hand takes 20-30 minutes so we used to not make it all that often. With the Big Mouth all I do is quarter a red cabbage and drop the quarters in to the food tube with a couple of cloves of garlic and a whole red onion. Using the fine shredder it takes less than 10 seconds to shred these ingredients. I then add in 5-6 peeled carrots and 10 seconds later they are shredded. Add a little vinegarette and we're done in under 5 minutes - peeling time for the carrots included. A couple of nice design touches round out an impressive machine: 1 - The chopping blade is uniquely shaped and slightly serrated. It seems to be able to cut through tough ingredients better than the blades on other food processors I have owned. 2 - The work bowl is also slightly angled outward so that food tends to stick less to the side. This comes in handy when pureeing soups, sauces etc. 3 - The speed/pulse dial allows for a range of slicing dicing options. 4 - The suction cups on the bottom really do hold this thing in place. This is important because this is a powerful machine that generates a lot of torque. 5 - The suction cups on my machine have not fallen off despite a lot of use. Most machines I have owned in the past lose their suction cups or little sticky 'feet' within a couple of months. 6 - The work bowl is huge. I have used this to puree a couple of quarts of tomatoes in one shot. No need to puree in batches - an inevitably messy process. 7 - The expanding feeding tube is amazing. I salute the engineer that came up with that little innovation. We have been using it now for 7 months with not a single problem. I highly recommend this food processor, either for yourself or as a gift.
